On Sunday, 1 May, 700 runners took to the O’Keefe Rail Trail as part of the O’Keefe Challenge (and a social Light the Trail Night Ride which took place on Friday 13 May). Fosterville Gold Mine was a major sponsor and also had a team participating in the event.
The challenge is a community fitness event that includes a Marathon, Half-Marathon, 10km and 5km fun run which leads runners through picturesque Bendigo and Heathcote bushland along the O’Keefe Rail Trail.
Fosterville Gold Mine also entered a team of 19 into the event, including a seven runner Ekiden Relay, and four runner Mini-Eki Relay which both placed second in their events.
The event aims to raise funds for the Heathcote Dementia Alliance, a dedicated group of volunteers working towards changing the way we care for vulnerable members of our community who are experiencing dementia.
