Regional exploration

In order to find new areas of gold mineralisation (which are often covered by deep soil and sedimentary sequences), our Exploration Geologists use a combination of reconnaissance and low impact exploration including:

Geophysical surveying
Geophysical surveying

Geophysics is the non-invasive investigation of subsurface conditions in the Earth through measuring, analysing and interpreting physical fields at the surface (often using small aircraft and helicopters), and is often the first step in green-fields exploration.

Diamond drilling
Diamond drilling

Diamond drilling is usually one of the final stages of exploration, often used to confirm the presence of gold mineralisation. For this a special drill rig is used to extract small diameter core from the Earth’s crust at depths of up to 2km.

Surface soil sampling
Surface soil sampling

Soil sampling is usually the next step taken, as soils often reflect the type of rock that sits below the soil.

Regional exploration

In addition to the mine lease (MIN5404), larger potions of land called “Exploration Tenements” have been leased to Fosterville Gold Mine. The regional exploration team explore these areas for new mineral deposits.
