Supporting BFFS to tackle financial disadvantage head-on

In 2021, Fosterville Gold Mine provided sponsorship to Bendigo Family and Financial Services (BFFS), a community services organisation dedicated to providing emergency relief, financial counselling, financial literacy support and No Interest Loans (NILs) to those at risk of financial exclusion and disadvantage in the Bendigo region.

The grant enabled BFFS - which had moved offices at the end of 2020 – to set up their new conference and training room with furniture, audiovisual equipment, and other appliances to make it an effective meeting space.

“At BFFS we aim to break the cycle of poverty and disadvantage in our communities by providing innovative programs and individually tailored approaches, that support people to become financially literate, resilient and independent,” said Jenny Elvey, BFFS General Manager.

“The conference room is an important space for us that not only enables us to host important events such as the NILs State Conference that keeps us connected with other similar organisations; but also allows us to offer training opportunities such as weekly self-defence training for family violence survivors” Jenny explained.

“Fosterville has made it possible for us to host these types of events easily and cost-effectively, which is really important and appreciated,” Jenny continued.

FGM General Manager, Lance Faulkner said: “We are so grateful and proud to have contributed towards the dedicated BFFS team’s work to support and uplift those who are experiencing financial hardship within our community.”
