Eaglehawk North Primary School (ENPS) is deeply rooted in its community and it is not surprising given it will celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2024!. Recently, FGM was able to support the school’s 'Reading for All' project with a community grant. The project aims to improve reading results by introducing the science of reading using decodable readers for use by their grade P-2 students.
Decodable readers encourage children to sound out words using decoding strategies rather than guessing from pictures or predicting from other cues.
Shirley Symons, ENPS Prep Teacher and Literacy Coordinator shared some insights into the impact of the grant, saying, "We cannot thank FGM enough for the grant which helped us purchase over 600 decodable readers for the Systematic Phonics Program."
Trudi Jackson, Fosterville Gold Mine Senior Community Advisor, said, "Fosterville Gold Mine is delighted to support Eaglehawk North Primary School and its Science of Reading initiative. We believe in the power of education and know that this grant will make a meaningful impact in improving reading outcomes for the students. We commend ENPS for championing education and helping students unlock their potential to become successful, confident, and resilient learners."
