MCA School Tour Program proves to be popular

The Minerals Council of Australia (MCA) Victoria Division has been working in collaboration with a number of mining operations across Victoria to develop a new ‘School Tours’ Program. Pitched at secondary school students, the program aims to connect students and teachers with people currently working in Victoria’s resources sector, whilst also providing an opportunity to experience an operational mine site firsthand.

In April and May this year, Fosterville Gold Mine (FGM) welcomed to site students from Pyramid Hill College and Wedderburn College. The three-hour visits included: a tour of the new core shed facility; a stop at the Ellesmere Pit lookout where students were able to get up-close with the surface haulage fleet and underground drilling vehicles; a Q & A session with a number of FGM employees including Engineers, OHS Superintendent’s and Environment and Community Advisors; and finally, a guided tour of the process plant.

A range of employees shared their own experiences and highlighted the diverse range of careers on offer in the resources industry. FGM is looking forward to hosting more school tours throughout 2022 and if you would like more information on the program, please contact the MCA via email: info.vic@minerals.org.au
