Community Notification
NOVEMBER 2024
Fosterville Gold Mine can confirm that a mine-induced seismic event was recorded at 6:41am this morning, Tuesday November 5, 2024.
The event registered a magnitude 3.4 Mw (Moment Magnitude), which we understand was felt by many in the surrounding community. We recognise that such occurrences can be concerning for local residents, and we encourage those impacted to reach out to us.
It should be noted that our reported magnitude may differ from that provided by Geoscience Australia and other agencies, which typically use the Local Magnitude (ML) scale.
Mine-induced seismicity is complex, the mechanisms are similar to earthquakes however, these events are related to our mining activities.
We want to assure the community that all of our employees are safe and we have robust safety protocols in place for these type of events.
We will continue to make ourselves available to the community and can be contacted via fgm.community@agnicoeagle.com or call 03 5439 9000.
FGM will recommence development and production blasting in the Harrier and Robbins Hill mining areas from 9 November.
