JUNE 2023
On Thursday the 1st of June at 6:37am Fosterville Gold Mine registered a 2.2 ML mine induced seismic event during the Phoenix 3950 level firing.
The location of the event was approximately 1.2 km below the surface and 12m west of the underground mine workings.
Mine induced seismicity is a common phenomenon experienced across the underground mining industry and is caused by the redistribution of rock stress underground.
In 2020, FGM completed the installation of a dedicated underground seismic monitoring system, which enables us to record when an event occurs underground, the magnitude and location.
More information regarding mine induced seismicity can be found on our website.
