Flood response shows our communities are made of the right stuff

When it started raining last week in Victoria, although we expected there would be some flooding, many of us didn’t fully comprehend the scale and extent of the crisis that would unfold.

At Fosterville Gold Mine, we were prepared for all eventualities that a significant rainfall event might bring, but the flooding that has occurred in our surrounding communities has been devastating and our thoughts are with those who have been directly impacted and displaced as a result.

Nevertheless, the resilience and response of our local communities to support one another in their time of need has been nothing short of inspiring, and provides a heart-warming reminder of the wonderful community spirit that exists around us.

We extend our deep appreciation to the Emergency Services crews, volunteers and generous local businesses that continue to assist others to protect their properties from flood waters and help with clean-up and recovery activities. We are proud of our staff who continue to volunteer their services to support flood relief and recovery efforts in Rochester and Echuca.

Yesterday, we were pleased to be able to deliver 50+ pairs of gumboots and essential supplies to Rochester, and we will continue to support our neighbouring communities in whatever capacity we can.

Fosterville is committed to making a positive contribution to the communities in which we operate, and we are proud to be part of these resilient regional Victorian communities.
