The first round of Fosterville Gold Mine (FGM) Community Grants Program for 2022 were handed over by Will Wettenhall, FGM Environment and Community Manager, and Leigh Byrne, FGM Community Officer, at an event held at the mine on Friday, 13 May.

The projects were selected from 16 applications based on their alignment with the objectives set out in FGM’s Social Responsibility Strategy.

“While all of the applications were great, we selected the following projects based on their alignment with our objectives to have positive impact in the social, sustainable and educational wellbeing of the communities in which we operate,” explains Trudi Jackson, FGM Senior Community Advisor.

Congratulations to the following successful applicants:

1. St Monica’s Primary School Parents and Friends – Soft plastics recycling

To assist the St Monica’s PS Parents and Friends Committee to purchase new soft plastics bins for classrooms and the playground to add to their already extensive recycling program that the school has established, in order to educate the students about the importance of recycling waste and reduce the school’s carbon footprint.

2. Ironbark Tennis Club – Big Dreams Program

To enable Ironbark Tennis Club’s Big Dreams Program – which aims to get indigenous and CALD community members involved in playing tennis – to purchase equipment, clothing, footwear and coaching sessions for participants who are unable to afford it.

3. Lightning Reef Primary School – New outdoor furniture for Prep-Grade 2 students

To provide the Prep-Grade 2 students with suitable tables and seats outdoors where they can eat their lunch. Since COVID, students are being encouraged to eat their lunches outside as much as possible, however, they currently don’t have any outdoor furniture, so this grant will considerably improve their lunching experience.

4. The Gianna Centre – Social Centre Setup

To assist the Gianna Centre, which offers a wide variety of support services to vulnerable families in the community, to turn their social centre into a welcoming and homely place for those who attend the centre on a regular basis.

5. Bendigo Blaze Inline Hockey Club – Facility Upgrade

To enable the club to upgrade their facilities – including moving the scorers box, installing better storage systems and purchasing an equipment cart – in order to make it easier for volunteers to help with training, games and tournaments.

“The team at FGM feels privileged to contribute towards these projects and we are looking forward to seeing benefits that they bring,” concludes Trudi.
