Where Bendigo women come together

The Bendigo Region Women’s Shed is bringing women together from across the region, creating a space to connect, learn new skills and support each other through all stages of life.

With more than 60 members and growing, it’s the only women’s shed in Bendigo. While the group doesn’t yet have a permanent home, that hasn’t slowed them down. From weekly catch ups to practical workshops and guest speakers, there’s always something happening.

With support from a Fosterville Gold Mine Community Grant, the group recently purchased a television screen, and it’s already proving to be a game changer.

The screen is now at the centre of many of their sessions, helping bring important information and conversations to life. Members have taken part in presentations on everything from personal safety and scam awareness, to menopause, chronic disease prevention and planning for later life.

They’ve also connected with programs like Rural Women Online, and welcomed local organisations to share knowledge on topics like funerals and aged care, helping members feel more informed and prepared for the future.

It’s not all presentations, though. The Women’s Shed also runs regular craft sessions and gets hands-on with woodworking, sharing space with the Marong Men’s Shed each week.

“We are proud to support groups like the Bendigo Region Women’s Shed, who are building strong connections and creating opportunities for learning and support within the community,” said Leigh Byrne, FGM’s Community Advisor.

As the group continues to grow and work towards securing a permanent home, it’s clear the impact is already being felt, creating a stronger, more connected community along the way.
