The Huntly Men’s Shed has quickly become a vibrant hub for connection, skill-sharing, and community spirit in the Huntly area. Since forming just five months ago, the Shed has already welcomed 53 members and is continuing to grow.
Driven by a strong purpose – to create a welcoming space where men can come together, learn, share, and build lasting friendships – the shed is supporting mental and physical wellbeing in the region.
Through hands-on activities like woodworking, gardening, and automotive projects, as well as regular social and educational events, members are encouraged to stay active, feel connected, and contribute to their community.
Already, members have engaged with events like the Huntly Family Fun Day and forged partnerships with groups including the Huntly Community Hub, Northern Bendigo Landcare Group, and Bendigo Northern District Community Enterprise.
There are also plans to create saleable products from recycled materials, expand the on-site garden to support local food relief, and continue to improve sustainability through energy-efficient systems.
To support their continued growth and community contribution, Fosterville Gold Mine recently provided the shed with a Community Grant to assist with the purchase of tools and equipment to ensure a safe, engaging and productive space for all members.
“The contribution that the Huntly Men’s Shed is making to the community is priceless and we wish these easy-going and friendly blokes all the best with their future plans,” said Leigh Byrne, Community Officer at Fosterville Gold Mine.
