Uniting Threads – a dedicated group of crafty Bendigonians – is making a meaningful difference by crafting handmade patchwork quilts for people in need across the community. With the support of a Fosterville Gold Mine Community Grant, the group was recently able to purchase a much-needed sewing machine, helping them work more efficiently and continue their valued contributions.
Since starting in 2009, Uniting Threads has grown to around 30 members who meet weekly to create beautiful quilts. Over the years, they have generously donated hundreds of these quilts to a range of community members and organisations, offering warmth, comfort and support wherever it’s needed most. Already this year, they have delivered 100 quilts, showcasing their ongoing dedication to supporting the community.
“Our new machine has been a most welcome asset,” said Trinette Every, Joint Convenor of Uniting Threads. “It has allowed us to keep up with growing demands and continue supporting those in need.”
“We are proud to support groups like Uniting Threads, whose work brings comfort and connection to many across the region,” says Trudi Jackson, FGM’s Community Superintendent.
