FOSSALS planting project reinvigorates the Emu Creek Streamside Reserve

The Friends of the Strathfieldsaye Streams & Land volunteer group (FOSSALS), which started in March 2019 and currently has 20 volunteer members, is working to reinstate the creeks and surrounds of Strathfieldsaye (Sheepwash, Emu and Axe creeks) by removing exotic weeds and revegetating with local native plants.

To date they have assisted the North Central Catchment Management Authority with a project to reintroduce native fish into the creeks and have a long term objective to get the to point that would allow the return of platypus. The Fossals received a community grant in 2021 to assist with the purchase of native plants and tree guards for planting along the Emu Creek Streamside Reserve.

In combination with other funding, the group has planted over 1,670 native plants along the reserve.
