The Friends of the Bendigo to Kilmore Rail Trail received a Fosterville Community Grant in 2020 for the installation of replica whistle posts along the O'Keefe Rail Trail from Axedale to Heathcote.
Whistle posts were an important part of the railway infrastructure when the railway was in operation and these replica posts show trail users that they are approaching a crossing road and also indicate the name of the road.
The project has seen the installation of 30 posts at 15 road crossings between Axedale and Heathcote.
Agnico Eagle Fosterville acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the land we live and work on, the Dja Dja Wurrung and the Taungurung Peoples of the Kulin Nation, and recognises their continuing connection to the land and waterways. We pay our respects to their Elders past and present and extend this to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People.
