JUNE 2024
On Wednesday 5 June 2024, 40 Year 11 and 12 students from St Joseph’s College in Echuca visited Fosterville Gold Mine to learn more about the trade-based roles, apprenticeships and other career paths available for those interested in pursuing a career in the resources industry.
The tour formed part of the Minerals Council of Australia (MCA) Victoria Division’s School Tours Program which aims to connect students and teachers with people currently working in Victoria’s resources sector, while also providing an opportunity to experience an operational mine site firsthand.
During the tour the students were introduced to a range of employees, who shared their own experiences and highlighted the diverse range of skills needed, including engineering, environmental science and geology, as well as the wide range of trades, such as electricians, mechanics, plumbers and more.
FGM hosts numerous school groups as part of the MCA program each year. If you are a teacher and you would like more information on the program, please visit our Educational resources page to find out more and put in a request.
