Sedgwick CFA breath easy with new equipment

Sedgwick CFA recently boosted firefighter safety with the purchase of self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) units, thanks to a Fosterville Gold Mine Community Grant. These units are essential for providing clean air in toxic environments, such as during house or car fires.

Until now, the closest SCBA-equipped brigade was 15 minutes away, resulting in delayed response times that pose risks to both firefighters and the community.

The brigade were also able to acquire a new CFA-issued tanker, equipped to store SCBA units, and completed the requisite training required.

Josh King, 1st Lieutenant of Sedgwick CFA, said: “Bringing in SCBA units is a crucial step in ensuring our team can manage hazardous situations safely and effectively.”

Trudi Jackson, FGM’s Senior Community Advisor said, “At Fosterville Gold Mine, we are always on the look out for projects that allow us to support local emergency service providers, so that they can continue to provide their essential services to the community."
