JUNE 2023

Celebrating International Day of Women in Mining 2023

The International Day of Women in Mining 2023 (IDWIM 2023) took place on 15 June. As a signature sponsor of the day, Agnico Eagle was proud to host an event at the Red Energy Arena in Bendigo.

A number of staff from Fosterville Gold Mine participated, along with others who work in the mining industry around the region.

The event aimed to empower women to share their passion for the mining industry and commemorate past achievements in gender inclusion while reinforcing the belief that "equity in mining is everyone's responsibility".

Two excellent guest speakers delivered inspiring keynote speeches, including:

  • Karissa Cameron, the founder of Lead with Purpose, who has developed a customised frontline leadership development program to support aspiring leaders in the mining industry, showcasing her passion for empowering others and fostering their success; and
  • Unna Goldsworthy, founder of the UNNA Movement which promotes the importance of nurturing energy, finding a sustainable and personalised approach to wellness, and achieving holistic health. With a background in exercise science, rehabilitation, and health psychology, Unna provided some great insights into overcoming obstacles and establishing a lifelong relationship with your health.

The Gender Equity Action Plan Annual Review was also presented at the event, to share the progress towards achieving gender equity in the mining industry, highlighting areas of success and where more work is needed.

Overall, the event was a great opportunity for the wider mining industry to come together, celebrate the contributions of women to the sector, and recommit to working towards greater equity and inclusion for all.
