Community Engagement
DECEMBER 2022
The Bright Future STEM program is a national Primary School initiative coordinated by the Australian Resources and Energy Employer Association (AREEA).
The program is aimed towards nine to 12 year old children learning about Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), showcasing the diverse and rewarding career opportunities within the resources and energy sector and exposing children to future industry opportunities.
The session began with industry role model Claudia talking to students from Spring Gully Primary School about her job as an Exploration Geologist at Fosterville Gold Mine and what it’s like for women working in STEM fields. The students and staff were immediately impressed as she opened her talk with “I look for gold!”, they were excited to hear all about her journey and day-to-day work.
Students thoroughly enjoyed participating in some STEM-based activities which encouraged problem-solving, critical thinking, communication, teamwork and fun!
