Agnico Eagle’s Fosterville Gold Mine regrets to report that at approximately 19:15 local time on Monday 20th June 2022 a FGM employee was found unresponsive on the surface at the mine site in Fosterville, Victoria.
First aid was applied immediately and emergency services were contacted and attended site. Sadly, the employee was pronounced deceased.
Operations were suspended and police, WorkSafe Victoria and the coroner attended site. Immediately following this tragic event, we temporarily stopped production activities while we focussed on caring for the immediate family and work colleagues. Regulatory investigations are proceeding to determine cause and circumstances of the event. As of Thursday 23rd June the workforce has returned to site as we plan resumption of the operations.
We remain focused on ensuring support to the family of the worker involved and ensuring the safety, health and wellbeing of all our employees. We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends and co-workers. Out of respect for the family, we will not be identifying the individual at this time.
