MARCH 2023

Information bulletin

In accordance with our commitment to keeping the community informed, please see below information regarding FGM’s operations and odour associated with CIL (Carbon-In-Leach) Water Storage Dam 1.

FGM is aware of odour (sulphurous smell) being emitted from the CIL Water Storage Dam 1. As a result of the significant rainfall events that occurred in late 2022, there is a larger volume of water being stored in CIL Water Storage Dam 1, which is responsible for the odour.

To assist in managing the odour, FGM has been actively treating the CIL water through our ASTER Plant facility and commenced transfer of water to other storage locations. In parallel to these remedial actions, FGM has also progressed a bioremediation trial with ‘odour consuming’ bacteria. Results of the trial were successful and on 24 March we commenced full-scale bacterial treatment in CIL Water Storage Dam 1.

We appreciate that under certain weather conditions, some of our neighbouring landholders my have experienced and been impacted by the odour. This information is being shared to keep our community informed of the ongoing work to mitigate this situation.

Should you have any questions regarding the information provided above, please contact a member of the FGM Community Team via 03 5439 9000 or fgm.community@agnicoeagle.com
