Emergency Response team shines at Darwin competition

Fosterville Gold Mine’s Emergency Response team took part in the Northern Australian Emergency Response Competition (NAERC), in Darwin at the beginning of May 2022 and came away with five first places and two second places from the 13 awards on offer.

The NAERC prides itself on being a friendly competition, with the primary focus being on participation and skills development. The competition’s motto is: “Every minute saved in practice, could be the one needed to save a life” … a valuable reminder to all the crews about why they do what they do.

Besides reinforcing what they have trained for so many times, the FGM team also gained some great experience pitching their skills in nine high intensity events – against five other emergency response teams – in hot and humid conditions.

And their hard work paid off:

First place

Second Place

Underground search and rescue
Road accident rescue
First aid
Team safety
Best medic

Overall
Team captain

The team were particularly proud to be recognised for their overall teamwork, winning the Mates in Mining – Mateship Award.

Well done Matt, Harry, Scott, Natasha, Ash (team captain), Dan and Steve for making us proud!

The overall competition winners (although only just!) were Cannington South 32 who performed consistently well in all events.
